Will I beg to differ; ST means "something really big" when you combine Sediau+Tango you really have something potentially really big. I believe mobile user authentication using 3D face-typing will be recognized as the defining application for Tango sensors. Time to accelerate our project now that Lenovo Tango enabled phones will soon release.
Sina Jahanbin who is the Sediau project lead and the definitive source on contour based 3D face typing, has now defined a timeline for completion of our Sediau project. 20 weeks or less than 6 months!!
Lenovo will be releasing a consumer mobile device this year with a 3D camera module rumoured to be under $500!! This is an exciting development for the advancement of 3D on mobile devices and extremely welcome news to project Sediau participants. Just as the present norm is for all mobile handsets & tablets to have cameras, we at project Seidau predict that within 5 years all mobile device cameras will have 3D capability. Yeah!!
How long before a decent stereo camera becomes the standard default for all tablets? This type of innovative camera has to be on the Phablets of tomorrow or for the same reason the founders of Light found themselves taking photos with their cell phones when their professional camera was sitting on a shelf at home will certainly persist.
Since facial-depth files will be captured from different angles and at different distances from the camera, the pixel depth files need to be normalized, that is "made to fit" the individual's actual depth profile.
We will be relying upon Sina Jahanbin knowledge and experince with Procrustese Analysis to normalize captured contours by shrinking or stretching a captured shape to be a member of an equivalence class by removing the translational, rotational and uniform scaling components. Think of each face template as being captured as some scaled rubber mask, and then uniformly enlarging or shrinking the mask, until it fits the person's face.
